The country of friendly people and tasty food
North of Ukraine is situated the very beautiful and green country of Belarus. Bewitching of nature, it invites tourists to see the sights, to relax from the hustle and learn about the life and history of this land and local people and to enjoy delicious food. The Belarusian's are very friendly and welcoming people. Anyone wishing to improve their health will discover many resorts at very low prices. The Republic of Belarus is located in Eastern Europe. It shares borders with Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Latvia and Lithuania. The capital city is Minsk. This is a presidential republic with about 9.5 million people. The official languages are Belarusian and Russian, with most being of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The terrain is flat with small hills in the center It is the largest European country which has no seaside border. The climate is continental, with the summer temperature around +20C, while in the winter there are cold temperatures of +4C to -8C. May to September are the warmest months. Forests cover one third of the territory and the main river is the Dnieper. The largest lakes are the Naroch, Osveyskoye and Polesie. The Bialowieza Forest is one of the many nature reserves that protect endangered species and animals.
Belarus is called the "lungs of Europe" and it is for good reason! It has so many beautiful forests and villages, spacious meadows, lakes and resorts. There are a great number of historical monuments, monasteries, healthy food, with lots of different excursions and all for a very low prices. Beauty treatment facilities are well known throughout the world including mud treatments, the healing waters, and of course, the climate as they are situated in nature, including forests and on the banks of rivers and lakes.
Air transport is underdeveloped (even with 7 airports in the country), but rail and city highways are good quality. The roads outside the main cities are poorly maintained. Between cities you can travel by train (more comfortable) or bus (much cheaper), although most ideal is the rental car (right-hand traffic).
The currency is the Belarusian ruble (1USD = 14280 BYR). Money can be exchanged in exchange offices or banks, hotels and shops. All cities have ATMs ánd credit cards are accepted in hotels, restaurants and shops. Foreign currency can be brought in without restriction, although anything over $10 000 should be declared.
Luxury hotels are not readily available although there are 3 star and 4 star hotels that are comfortable with friendly staff offering a warm welcome to brighten your stay. In the larger cities, hotels can sometimes be located on the floors of conventional houses.
There are many nature reserves and national parks, including Berezinsky Reserve, reserve "Blue Lake" and Lake Naroch. Churches, cathedrals, castles and estates include the Trinity Suburb, Zaslavl, Nesvizh Castle, the tomb of princes Radziwill, ethnographic complex "Dudutki" memorial complex "Brest Fortress" Braslav Lakes, Zhirovichi monastery and a huge number of other places. There is a wide range of excursions to different places and cities to choose from, Vitebsk, Polotsk, Brest, Grodno, Bialowieza Forest, Zaslavl and Khatyn, Dudutki does not include all the beautiful places of this country.
Belarusian cuisine consists of potatoes, mushrooms and pork in several different variations. Potato pancakes with sour cream, cakes, various pancakes, dumplings with stuffing, vegetables, various meats, soups and more are all part of the national dishes. Delicious! Popular drinks include kvass and birch sap, tincture "Krambambulya" and "Krupnik".
Tipping is not obligatory but it's a nice gesture (customary 10%)
Traditional Souvenirs include linen products, lace, wood, pottery, products from straw, beaded embroidery and, of course, Belarusian balm. A well-known underwear "Milavitsa" will delight ladies with excellent prices!
